The 8th Five Year Plan (2021-2025) sets out the main targets to be achieved in the fisheries sector with a view to achieving the goals set out in the government's election manifesto, promotion to developed-rich countries by 2041 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Increasing the production of farmed fish by 12.50 percent and total fish production by 11 percent compared to 2019-20 (25.83 lakh MT);
Ensuring a daily per capita fish intake of 64 grams;
Export of frozen shrimp, fish and value added fishery products increased to 1.00 lakh MT;
Creating more employment for unemployed youth and young women and ensuring 20-25 percent female participation in fisheries;
Increasing the income of fishermen/fishermen by 30 percent;
Develop good farming management and supply systems at every stage of supply of fish and shrimp to international markets; And
Implementation of plans adopted to ensure sound management of marine fisheries resources.
